David P. Atkins Named as Pullman & Comley Litigation Department Chair

BRIDGEPORT, Conn.:  David P. Atkins has been named as chairman of the Litigation Department of Pullman & Comley, LLC, the law firm announced today.  Mr. Atkins was appointed to the position earlier this month and succeeds James T. Shearin, who was named chairman of the firm in September.

In addition, Mr. Atkins will remain the leader of the firm’s Professional Liability Section, a role he has held since joining the firm in 2008.  Practicing in the areas of professional liability, commercial litigation, appeals and administrative proceedings, Mr. Atkins represents professionals, including attorneys, law firms and health care practitioners, in malpractice, business dissolution, licensing, court sanctions proceedings, ethics and disciplinary matters.

Mr. Atkins frequently is engaged by law firms and corporate legal departments on legal ethics and professional liability issues.  He is a regular speaker at programs sponsored by the Connecticut, Fairfield County, Greater Bridgeport, New Haven County and Westport Bar Associations and the Connecticut and Westchester County chapters of the American Corporate Counsel Association.  He also testifies as an expert witness on attorney conduct and the “law of lawyering.”  Additionally, he has authored numerous articles and publications on topics including attorney advertising, conflict waivers, advancing client costs, and reporting client misconduct.

Mr. Atkins received the highest peer review rating by Martindale-Hubbell and been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America and Connecticut Super Lawyers since 2007.  He served on the Connecticut Bar Association’s Task Force on Grievance Procedures and the Special Committee on In-House Counsel Certification.  He also served as special counsel for the U.S. District Court’s Grievance Committee.  He was former director of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers (APRL).
