Pullman & Comley Attorneys to Speak on the Best Practices for Conducting Investigations

2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Connecticut Convention Center - 100 Columbus Blvd., Hartford, CT

Pullman & Comley attorneys Judge Robert L. Holzberg (Ret.) and Melinda B. Kaufmann, with Anne O. McCrory of Albertus Magnus College, will participate in a panel discussion moderated by Pullman & Comley Labor and Employment co-chair Megan Y. Carannante at the 2026 Connecticut Legal Conference. The session will examine best practices for conducting internal and external investigations involving allegations of misconduct, including sexual harassment, financial irregularities, and violations of law or policy.

Judge Holzberg will discuss public sector investigations, including defining the scope and methodology of an investigation, deciding whether an investigation should be internal or public, privilege and confidentiality considerations, the impact of parallel civil or criminal proceedings, report scope, and the use of artificial intelligence. Melinda will address Title IX and education-related investigations, including trauma-informed interviewing techniques, student interviews, and procedural requirements under Title IX. Anne will offer the client perspective, focusing on when to authorize an investigation, defining goals, timelines, and budgets, managing the investigative process and outside counsel, and navigating dynamics between in-house counsel and boards. As moderator, Megan will highlight key issues that arise in investigations and provide counsel’s perspective on structuring and managing the investigative process.

Drawing on their experience conducting workplace investigations, Judge Holzberg, Melinda and Megan will offer practical insights throughout the discussion.
