In the HR.com article "HR Meets AI," Pullman & Comley Attorneys Russell Anderson and Donald "DJ" Anderson discuss how AI is increasingly being used in HR departments to improve efficiency and hiring processes. While AI offers many benefits, they caution that employers must still comply with existing employment laws, as well as a growing body of regulations specifically targeting AI in the workplace.

Russ and DJ explain that laws like Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) remain fully applicable even when AI is involved in employment decisions. “An employer cannot excuse itself for violations of these laws by blaming the AI model that it used” they note, employers must ensure that AI tools do not lead to discrimination based on protected characteristics such as race, age, disability, or sex, as doing so could result in legal liability.
