PRESS RELEASE: Christopher P. McCormack Wins 2013 Distinguished Legal Writing Award

BRIDGEPORT, Conn.: Christopher P. McCormack, a partner with Pullman & Comley, LLC, was selected as a 2013 Distinguished Legal Writing Award Winner by the Burton Awards for Legal Achievement for his article, “The ASTM Standard Practice for Phase II Environmental Site Assessment.”

The Burton Awards is a unique national awards program that was established to honor achievements in law and effective legal writing.  In association with the Library of Congress, the award is presented to partners and counsel in law firms who have written outstanding articles which are clear, concise and comprehensive.   “Dedicated to rewarding excellence, encouraging perfection, and defining the standards for others to follow in the profession of the law,”  the award is a special honor given to only 30 authors from entries submitted by the nation’s 1,000 largest law firms.

Mr. McCormack’s environmental law practice includes litigation of liability and cost recovery actions including lead counsel responsibility for Superfund site coalitions, as well as enforcement defense and administrative proceedings.  He also has extensive experience with environmental aspects of corporate and real estate transactions.  His litigation practice includes prosecution and defense of commercial litigation matters involving contract and business loss claims, commercial torts and unfair trade practices for clients in manufacturing, computer equipment, insurance and the professional services sectors.

Mr. McCormack is Secretary and Legislative Liaison for the Environmental Law Section of the Connecticut Bar Association.  He is also Membership Secretary of ASTM International’s Committee E50 on environmental assessment standards, and chaired the ASTM Task Group responsible for revising ASTM Standard Practice E1903 on Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.

Celebrating its fourteenth year, the 2013 Burton Awards will be held at the Library of Congress on June 3, 2013.  In addition to presenting the law firm honorees with their awards, this year’s program will feature a presentation of the “Contemporary Book of the Year in Law Award” to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
