Attorney Campbell Barrett Comments on Supreme Court Divorce Ruling

Attorney Campbell Barrett, chair of Pullman & Comley’s Family Law practice and chair of the of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Amicus Committee, was quoted in the Connecticut Law Tribune article, “Millions at Stake In Quarrel Over High Court Divorce Ruling.” In the article, Campbell commented on the Supreme Court’s O’Brien v. O’Brien, which has played out over the past decade in a trio of cases with differing opinions resulting at the trial, appellate and Supreme Court levels.

According to Campbell, Michael O’ Brien appeared to be acting in good faith when he exercised his stock options, and showed no intention toward depleting his or Kathleen O’Brien’s marital assets.

Campbell noted that until the Supreme Court takes up Michael O'Brien's motion to reconsider—which he said "is a high hurdle to clear"—divorce litigants will have to be more mindful of how they conduct their financial business. "In my view the safe way would be to let a court decide," he said regarding potentially questionable transactions.
