Russell Anderson Interviewed on Connecticut’s AI Compliance Requirements
Pullman & Comley Attorney Russell F. Anderson was quoted in the Hartford Business Journal article, “CT Businesses Face AI Compliance Deadlines Under Sweeping New Law.” The article examines Connecticut’s new Artificial Intelligence Responsibility and Transparency Act and its impact on employers using AI in hiring, promotion, discipline, and termination decisions.
Speaking with the Hartford Business Journal, Russ addressed the law’s treatment of automated decision‑making in employment contexts. He noted that employers cannot rely on AI as a defense to discrimination claims, stating: “If you’re using AI and it’s having a discriminatory impact then it’s you, you are the employer, you are the one making the choice.”
Russ also emphasized the need for businesses to quickly inventory their AI tools, policies, and procedures and to ensure they can document compliance in writing. “A lot of compliance is not just having a good product, but having a good product that you can document is good in writing,” he said. Russ also noted that more AI‑related legislation is likely to emerge in the coming years as regulatory gaps develop and the technology continues to evolve.
