PRESS RELEASE: Diane W. Whitney Receives Charles J. Parker Legal Services Award From Connecticut Bar Association

HARTFORD, Conn.:  Diane W. Whitney, a partner at Pullman & Comley, LLC and chair of the firm’s Environmental Law Department, is the 2014 recipient of the Charles J. Parker Legal Services Award from the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA).

The Charles J. Parker Legal Services Award recognizes an individual who has a deep and abiding interest in and dedication to the delivery of legal services to the disadvantaged in Connecticut, and has given selflessly in advancing the goal of providing legal services to all Connecticut residents. Diane received the award at an awards dinner hosted by the CBA on April 3.

Diane practices in the areas of environmental, toxic torts, and land use law and is involved in the defense of toxic tort claims throughout the country. Her litigation experience includes trial and appellate work in environmental matters, toxic torts and land use, and representation before administrative agencies including siting of utilities and Superfund matters.  She frequently counsels clients regarding the purchase, sale, remediation, and development of brownfields properties.

Diane received her B.A. from William Smith College, her M.A.T. from Colgate University, and her J.D. with honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law.  She has written numerous articles on environmental law and is a contributing author to Connecticut Civil Complaints for Business Litigation, Vol. 1 (2010) and Connecticut Civil Discovery Forms (2011).

As an active member of the Connecticut Bar Association, she holds membership in the Litigation Section; Environmental Law Section, also serving on its executive committee; Planning and Zoning Section; and has served on the House of Delegates for district 12.  In addition to her CBA membership, she is a member of the Hartford County Bar Association, American Bar Association, and is a Coopers Fellow of the Connecticut t Bar Foundation.

Diane’s community involvement includes membership on the Connecticut Women’s Council, the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame Board of Trustees, The Hartford Club Board of Governors, and she is a member of the editorial board of the Connecticut Law Tribune.  Additionally, she is on the board of directors for Greater Hartford Legal Aid (president, 2009-2012), 1892 club, and the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Diane has served as a board member of the University of Connecticut Law School Foundation, Inc. (2001-2010) as well as president (2007-2008).  In her town of Windsor, she has served on the Planning and Zoning Commission.
