Law360 Interviews Retired Judge Theodore R. Tyma on Joining Pullman & Comley
Retired Connecticut Superior Court Judge Theodore R. Tyma was recently featured in a Law360 article announcing his addition to Pullman & Comley’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practice. The article highlights his nearly 21 years on the bench and his decision to begin a new chapter following his retirement from the Connecticut judiciary earlier this month.
"I loved my judicial career. It was a privilege and a pleasure to serve as a judge in the state of Connecticut. I never forgot it for one day," Judge Tyma said. "But there came a point in time that I said I want to do something different at 65 and re-energize myself."
Judge Tyma cited Pullman & Comley’s reputation and leadership in ADR as major reasons for joining. “The firm is recognized as having the best alternative dispute resolution practice in the state,” Judge Tyma said, adding that it was “due in large measure to Robert L. Holzberg,” who built the firm's practice and "provided opportunities for other judges.” He also noted that he was local to the area: "I felt Pullman & Comley in Bridgeport was the perfect spot for me.”
Judge Tyma took the bench in May 2004, initially serving in Stamford. “From that point on,” he said, “I either worked out of the Bridgeport or Ansonia-Milford judicial districts.”
He noted that for most of his career, he was the presiding judge of the civil dockets in the Bridgeport and Ansonia-Milford judicial districts. In that role, he was the judge responsible for managing that docket, which gave him the opportunity to work directly with the lawyers coming into the courthouse.
Judge Tyma is experienced in mediating a wide array of civil matters including personal injury, professional liability, employment, probate and commercial disputes.
