Melinda Kaufmann to Present on Transgender Policies at the 2023 CAIS Annual Conference

Pullman & Comley Education Law attorney Melinda B. Kaufmann will present at the Connecticut Association of Independent School's Annual Conference on Business, Operations & Technology in a session titled "Transforming Equity: the Law & Transgender Students."

Independent schools developing policies and procedures regarding students who are transgender or gender non-conforming often struggle, because many of the current laws that govern these issues in educational environments do not apply to them. Melinda will present a summary of this important topic, including an overview of existing laws and the impact on athletics, housing and school documents at independent schools.  She will also offer some best practices on communicating policies and facilitating conversations with students and families around transition.
