Addressing the Needs of Ambulatory Surgery Centers

During the past year, our new health care attorneys were at the forefront of representing clients in mergers and acquisitions as well as in a host of regulatory matters in the ever-growing ambulatory surgery center sector.

  • We worked on the certificate of need (CON) proceedings and sale of an ambulatory surgery center to Merritt Healthcare and a group of physician investors in Bloomfield, CT.
  • We represented a diverse group of 23 specialists investing in the Waterbury-based Naugatuck Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center in another deal in which Merritt Healthcare also participated as the management company and as a significant equity participant.
  • We represented a physician buyer and a joint venture entity in the acquisition of a facility that will lead to the creation of the Greater New Haven Ambulatory Surgery Center located in Hamden, CT.
  • We assisted Bridgeport Hospital in the sale of its equity interest in the Surgery Center of Fairfield County to Surgical Care Associates.

Throughout these engagements and others, we handled a variety of complex relocation, facility licensure and managed care contracting matters for clients. Our attorneys also advised on regulatory issues surrounding Connecticut’s adoption of a 23-hour stay regulation for ambulatory surgery centers and the imposition of a provider tax on these facilities.
