Practice Book Amendments for 2026
Pullman & Comley Attorneys Frederic S. Ury and Portia Baudisch authored “Practice Book Amendments for 2026” in the March/April issue of CT Lawyer Magazine. In the article, Fred and Portia outline the amendments to the Connecticut Practice Book adopted by the judges of the Superior Court on June 12, 2025, and effective January 1, 2026, highlighting key updates across the General Provisions, Civil Rules, and Family Rules, as well as the introduction of the new Lawyers’ Principles of Professionalism.
Fred and Portia highlight the significance of the newly adopted Principles, which “emphasize the obligation of lawyers to model respect and civility in their interactions with each other and with the public” and are intended to serve as “aspirational guidelines for civility and decorum.” They also examine substantive procedural updates, including a new basis for a request to revise that allows parties to obtain “an attachment to an adverse party’s complaint or other pleading any express agreement alleged as a ground of action or defense,” a change intended to facilitate more efficient motion practice. The article further details major updates resulting from Connecticut’s adoption of the Interstate Depositions and Discovery Act, including the creation of new Section 13-28A governing deposition subpoenas and clarifying procedures for multistate discovery. Additional amendments include revisions to numerous Practice Book forms, updates to legal internship requirements, CLE opportunities tied to pro bono service, and expanded eligibility for guardians ad litem in family matters.
