Isabelle Bibet-Kalinyak Quoted on Website Compliance for Medical Practices
Pullman & Comley Health Care Attorney Isabelle Bibet-Kalinyak was featured in a Healio article, “Eye on Efficiency: Building a valuable, compliant website,” alongside Chad Erickson (MyAdvice), Cynthia Matossian, MD, FACS (Matossian Eye Associates), and Matt Ryan (MyAdvice). The article highlighted key takeaways from a recorded Healio training session Isabelle participated in, where she discussed the legal and compliance issues medical practices must consider when managing their websites.
Isabelle explained that website compliance extends well beyond HIPAA. “Everybody is familiar with HIPAA, but people forget that we have, usually, equivalent laws at the state level,” she said. “You also have to comply with the medical ethics in your state and at the national level. Sometimes, there are also guidelines at your medical society level," adding that it can be hard for medical practices to keep up with all the regulations governing compliance.
She also cautioned that while AI has potential to help with website compliance, general-purpose tools like ChatGPT are not appropriate for medical practices because they cannot reliably account for complex healthcare regulations. Isabelle recommends that practices focus on establishing clear compliance policies and procedures, staying up to date on privacy and regulatory requirements, and, if AI is used, only employing specialized tools that are specifically designed and trained for healthcare compliance.
