Mark Sommaruga Presents on FOIA and Remote Hearing Provisions at 2022 CABE/CAPSS Convention

3:40 p.m. - 5:15 p.m.
Mystic Marriott Hotel, Groton

Pullman & Comley Attorney Mark J. Sommaruga, author of the Fifth Edition of Understanding Connecticut's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) will take part in a workshop and panel discussion on the FOIA and new remote meeting provisions at the annual Connecticut Association of Boards of Education/Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents (CABE/CAPSS) Convention on November 18.

The FOIA contains open meetings and public records requirements (along with numerous exceptions) that unfortunately are often misconstrued. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic led to modifications of the FOIA, especially with respect to meetings. This workshop should serve to provide further/updated guidance to board of education members and school administrators seeking to navigate the FOIA. Special attention will be paid to modified "remote" and "hybrid" meetings requirements.
