Lee Hoffman Quoted on Statewide Regulations for CT Wake Surfers

CT Mirror

Pullman & Comley Environmental Attorney and firm chair Lee D. Hoffman was quoted in the CT Mirror article, “CT Wake Surfers Seek Statewide Regulation in Effort to Limit Local Bans.” The article discussed efforts by wake surfing advocates in Connecticut to prevent a patchwork of local bans following a recent prohibition on the sport at Lake Waramaug. The group Lake Waramaug Friends for Common-Sense Regulation petitioned the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) to establish uniform rules for wake surfing, aiming to provide clarity for lake users and reduce conflicts with surrounding homeowners.

Lee, who represents the advocacy group, emphasized the need for statewide consistency. He stated, “The appropriate thing to do, in our opinion, is to have statewide rules that address wake surfing throughout the state, because right now you have several bodies of water with several different methods of regulating wake surfing.” Lee suggested that statewide rules could include practical measures, such as restricting wake surfing to approximately 200 feet from shore, to balance recreational use with homeowner concerns.
