Lee D. Hoffman Named as One of “Dozen Who Made a Difference” in 2011

HARTFORD:  Lee D. Hoffman, a partner with Pullman & Comley, LLC, was named by the Connecticut Law Tribune as one of the “Dozen Who Made a Difference” in the Connecticut legal community in 2011.

The publication pointed to Lee’s work with Governor Malloy’s office, first co-chairing a panel making energy policy recommendations, and more recently, as part of the “Two Storm Panel” organized to review the response of the state, utilities and municipalities to Tropical Storm Irene and last October’s snowstorm.  The panel also reviewed the state’s overall disaster preparedness and response efforts, and issued a final report with a series of recommendations earlier this month.

The article quotes Andrew McDonald, general counsel to the governor:  “It’s rare to find somebody with both the breadth and depth of knowledge that Lee has.  He’s wickedly smart and very focused on outcomes which are advantageous to his clients.  But he also has a tremendous sense of public service, too, which the governor has readily tapped into.”

Based in Pullman & Comley’s Hartford office, Lee advises clients on various energy and environmental matters, including counseling them on regulatory and compliance issues, the siting of traditional and renewable electric generation facilities, utility rate proceedings before the DPUC, the redevelopment of contaminated properties (“brownfields”) to productive use, the ramifications associated with the acquisition or divestiture of assets, and facility audits.  As noted above, in early 2011 Lee served as co-chair of the Energy Working Group tasked with helping the new Malloy administration with policy advice in the area of energy, including lowering electric rates in Connecticut and increasing energy efficiency and renewable energy efforts.  He is also a member of the General Assembly’s Brownfields Working Group.

Lee is the Vice Chair of the Public Utilities Section and the Treasurer of the Environmental Section of the Connecticut Bar Association.  Lee also is a Steering Committee member of the Connecticut Business and Industry Association’s Environmental Policies Council,  the Secretary for the Town of Windsor’s Redevelopment Authority and a member of the executive committee of the board of directors of the Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity.  He has been named to the 2011 Connecticut Super Lawyers list in the area of energy and natural resources; The Best Lawyers in America 2012 in the area of energy law; and Who’s Who Legal in the area of environmental law.  Lee is also listed in Chambers USA, America’s Leading Lawyers to Businesses in the area of environmental law.

Lee earned his B.A. in environmental science and political science from Tulane University in 1991, his J.D. from George Washington University in 1994 and his LL.M. in environmental law, with highest honors, from George Washington University in 1996.

Lee resides in Windsor, Connecticut with his wife, Carolyn and their two children.
