Overview

Richard C. Robinson practices in the area of business litigation including the litigation of construction and employment disputes. He is a member of the firm’s Construction Law and Litigation Section. He has successfully resolved hundreds of business litigation cases, both through trial and settlement. As a special master, appointed by the judges of the Federal District Court in Connecticut, Rick is a frequent speaker on employment and construction cases. Additionally, Rick regularly speaks at construction law seminars and publishes in the field.

    • Won an eight day arbitration trial for respondents, a Fortune 500 company and its subsidiary, defeating a claim by individuals who sold their business to respondents that respondents prevented the claimants from earning their so-called $3 million "earn out"/additional purchase price
    • Obtained a million dollar verdict for a milk processor in a hotly contested breach of a requirements contract case against a large convenience store chain
    • Successful defense of a construction surety in a litigation involving the construction of the Connecticut Financial Center in New Haven, Fisher Skylights, Inc. v. CFC Const. Limited Partnership, 79 F.3d 9 (2d Cir. 1996)
    • Preservation of $32 million in insurance coverage for an asbestos manufacturer in a litigation brought against it by the Connecticut Insurance Guaranty Association, Connecticut Insurance Guaranty Ass’n. v. Raymark Corp., 215 Conn. 224, 575 A.2d 693 (1990)
    • Successful defense of the state of Connecticut, as an employer, in a class action brought by 73 judges of the Superior Court challenging the constitutionality of the judges' salary statute, Eielson v. Parker, 179 Conn. 552, 427 A.2d 814 (1980)
    • As co-counsel with a lawyer from another firm, successfully settled a series of lawsuits for a Connecticut municipality and its employee retirement plans to recover investment losses occasioned by the infamous Bernard L. Madoff Ponzi scheme; the total recovery was almost $16 million
    • Won a three-week trial for a Connecticut municipality in the Superior Court Complex Litigation Docket, defeating a trade contractor's seven-figure delay claim
