PRESS RELEASE: Pullman & Comley Attorney Meghan M. Sweeney Honored by the Hartford County Bar Association

HARTFORD, Connecticut:  Pullman & Comley attorney Meghan M. Sweeney was honored this week by the Hartford County Bar Association as the 2017 recipient of the Judge Maxwell Heiman Memorial Award. The award is presented to a Hartford County lawyer in his or her first ten years of practice who exemplifies the high standards of service to the profession, ethics, scholarship, and devotion to clients that were the hallmarks of Judge Heiman’s professional career as a lawyer and judge.

Ms. Sweeney focuses her practice in the area of family and matrimonial law. She represents clients across Connecticut in matters involving divorce, property division, alimony, child support, child custody, and parenting access, both in litigation and in the non-adversarial processes of collaborative divorce and mediation.  She is experienced in matters involving complex marital assets and post judgment modification of financial and custody orders and analyzes complicated compensation structures of self-employed business owners and high-income earners, including retirement and executive compensation awards and financial support awards.  In addition to her family law practice, Ms. Sweeney has experience in matters involving foreign and domestic business disputes, appellate matters, insurance defense and civil litigation.

Dranginis (Ret.) a partner in the firm’s Family Law practice who retired from the bench in 2006 after serving  for more than 21 years on the Superior and Appellate Courts.   Judge Dranginis was also recognized at the awards ceremony as immediate past president of the Hartford County Bar Association and has worked with Sweeney during the past six years.  “Meghan is a true credit to the profession,” added Dranginis. “She understands each client’s individual goals and woks diligently and ethically to incorporate those goals in her advocacy.  We are so happy to have her as part of our team and we look forward to many years of productive advocacy for our clients.”

Ms. Sweeney is an active member of the Hartford County Bar Association and is co-chair of the Bench-Bar Committee. She serves on the Connecticut Bar Association’s Committee for Professionalism and is a member of its Family Law and Young Lawyers sections.  Ms. Sweeney is also a member of the Fairfield County Bar Association, the Maryland Bar Association and the Collaborative Divorce Lawyers Association.

In the community, she is president of the University of Virginia Club, serves on the Gala Committee for the Children’s Law Center of Connecticut, and serves on the Breakfast Committee for the Aurora Foundation for Women and Girls in Greater Hartford. Ms. Sweeney received her B.A., with distinction, from the University of Virginia and her J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
