PRESS RELEASE: Diane W. Whitney Receives “2015 Women Of Fire” Award
HARTFORD, Conn., August 24, 2015: Diane W. Whitney, a partner in the Environmental practice at Pullman & Comley, LLC, has been named a 2015 Woman of FIRE by The Commercial Record. Women of FIRE is an annual award that recognizes 15 key female players in the local Finance, Insurance and Real Estate (FIRE) sectors and celebrates the best and the brightest women in the industry.
“We searched for the best of the best – those women who are making a difference through innovation, hard work, team-building, philanthropy, mentoring or leadership – and these women demonstrate these exemplary qualities,” said Timothy M. Warren, Jr., CEO of the Warren Group, publisher of The Commercial Record.
Ms. Whitney represents businesses, individuals and municipalities in all areas of environmental and land use planning and permitting. She frequently counsels clients regarding the purchase, sale, remediation and development of brownfield properties and is involved in the defense of toxic tort claims throughout the country.
Ms. Whitney received her B.A. from William Smith College, her M.A.T. from Colgate University, and her J.D. with honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law. She has written numerous articles on environmental law and is a contributing author to Connecticut Civil Complaints for Business Litigation, Vol. 1 (2010) and Connecticut Civil Discovery Forms (2011).
As an active member of the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA), Ms. Whitney holds membership in the Planning and Zoning Section, the Environmental Section and the Litigation Section. In addition to her CBA membership, she is a member of the Hartford County Bar Association, American Bar Association, and is a Coopers Fellow of the Connecticut Bar Foundation. Ms. Whitney is also an active member of the American Planning Association/Connecticut Planning Association, serves on the Connecticut Government Relations Committee of the International Council of Shopping Centers and is a member of the Real Estate Finance Association.
Ms. Whitney’s extensive community involvement includes serving as the chair of the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame; serving as an editorial board member of the Connecticut Law Tribune; serving on the board of directors for the Hartford Symphony Orchestra; and serving on the board of governors for The Hartford Club. She has served as a board member of the University of Connecticut Law School Foundation, Inc. (2001-2010) as well as its president from 2007-2008.
The Women of FIRE awards luncheon will be held at The Hartford Club on August 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Connecticut’s 73rd Secretary of State, Denise W. Merrill, will give the keynote speech.
