PRESS RELEASE: Marcy Tench Stovall Appointed Chair of Connecticut Bar Association Standing Committee on Professional Ethics

BRIDGEPORT, Conn., July 29, 2014.:  Pullman & Comley attorney Marcy Tench Stovall has been appointed chair of the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) Standing Committee on Professional Ethics. The President of the CBA made the appointment, which is effective as of July 1, 2014.

The Professional Ethics Committee acts as the principal body for providing written advisory opinions for Connecticut attorneys seeking guidance on the interpretation and application of the Rules of Professional Conduct.  The Committee also proposes revisions to the Rules of Professional Conduct, and advocates for their adoption by the Rules Committee of the Superior Court. The Committee’s published ethics opinions are considered authoritative and are routinely cited by courts and disciplinary tribunals.  The Committee’s opinions are published in the CBA’s Connecticut Bar Journal as well as in the nationally distributed ABA/BNA Lawyers’ Manual On Professional Conduct.

Ms. Stovall, the first woman to be appointed chair of the CBA’s Ethics Committee, is a member of the firm’s Professional Liability Practice Group.  She focuses her practice on the representation of professionals, including attorneys and law firms, in the defense of disciplinary and malpractice claims. She also regularly advises attorneys and law firms on matters of professional conduct and loss prevention.  She is a regular speaker at continuing legal education programs on law firm risk management topics.  Ms. Stovall’s articles on professional liability and the “law of lawyering” frequently appear in the Connecticut Law Tribune and Connecticut Lawyer magazine.

Ms. Stovall is an active member of the national Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers (APRL).  She has served on the CBA’s Professional Ethics Committee since 2000, and for the last two years has been the Committee’s liaison with the state courts’ Rules Committee.

Ms. Stovall received her B.A. degree from Stanford University in 1979 and her J.D. with high honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1993.
