Lambda Legal Appoints John F. Stafstrom to Board of Directors

BRIDGEPORT, April 1, 2014:  John F. Stafstrom, Jr., a partner in the Bridgeport office of Pullman & Comley, LLC, was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of Lambda Legal, the nation’s first legal organization dedicated to achieving full equality for lesbian and gay people, the law firm announced today.

Mr. Stafstrom joins the Board as its thirty-first member and will help the organization through  litigation, education and public policy work to achieve full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and those with HIV. Prior to joining the Board of Directors, Mr. Stafstrom had served for 10 years on Lambda Legal’s National Leadership Council, joining a group of volunteers who developed financial resources to support the mission of the organization.  Mr. Stafstrom is an Amicus-Level Liberty Circle Member.

“The work we do at Lambda Legal, from working for the freedom to marry to fighting discrimination in employment, healthcare and education makes an enormous impact on people’s lives,” Stafstrom said.  “I’m honored to be part of an organization that works for equality in the nation’s courts.”

Mr. Stafstrom, an attorney with Pullman & Comley LLC since 1981, chairs the firm’s Government Finance Practice and has been involved in some of Connecticut’s most notable development projects, including Steel Point in Bridgeport; HarborPoint in Stamford; the Jackson Laboratories facility at UConn Health Center and the Connecticut Airport Authority.   He is a recognized leader in numerous community and civic activities, and was selected in 2013` as the 65th Ringmaster for Bridgeport’s annual Barnum Festival.  He is the former chair of the Bridgeport Democratic Town Committee, and from 1987 through 1994, he served on the Bridgeport City Council.  Mr. Stafstrom was a founder of Career Resources, Inc., a program that provides job placement assistance and career services to individuals on public assistance, returning veterans, and others in need.  He is a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council and also serves on the board of directors of the P.T. Barnum Foundation, Inc.  Mr. Stafstrom was recently selected to serve on the board of the Norma F. Pfriem Outreach Initiatives, a not-for-profit organization that strives to better the lives of those in need in Bridgeport.
