PRESS RELEASE: Retired Superior Court Judge Robert L. Holzberg Joins Pullman & Comley as Head of ADR Practice

September 17, 2012

HARTFORD: The Honorable Robert L. Holzberg, who retired from the Connecticut Superior Court in September 2012 after more than 20 years of service, has joined Pullman & Comley, LLC as a member.  He will be based in the firm’s Hartford office.

Retired Judge Holzberg will lead the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practice at the firm, serving as a mediator, arbitrator and private judge in a wide range of complex civil matters in both state and federal courts.

“We are delighted to welcome Judge Holzberg to our firm,” said Rob Morris, chairman of Pullman & Comley.  “In recent years, we’ve seen a huge increase in the number of cases referred to ADR processes as a way of avoiding traditional litigation.  During his long career, Judge Holzberg became one of the most sought after mediators in Connecticut, and is known for his integrity and utmost professionalism.  He will be a tremendous asset as we expand our services in this area.”

Judge Holzberg was appointed to the Superior Court in 1990 by Governor William O'Neill.  While on the bench he served as the presiding judge for civil matters in the Middlesex, New Britain and Waterbury judicial districts, and most recently served as the Administrative Judge and Presiding Judge-Civil for Middlesex Judicial District.  During his career, he earned a reputation for his skill in crafting settlements in some of Connecticut's highest profile and most complex cases.

He has received several awards, including the 2011 Connecticut Bar Association's Henry J. Naruk Award, given to a member of the judiciary who epitomizes long-term, dedicated and conscientious service to the community, possesses the highest integrity, and has made substantial contributions to the administration of justice in Connecticut.  In 2005 he received the Hon. Robert F. Zampano Award for Excellence in Mediation and in 1998 received the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association Judicial Award.

Before his appointment to the bench, Robert was on the faculty of the University of Connecticut School of Law and also served as an Assistant Public Defender in the Office of the Chief Public Defender. He received his B.A. from Brown University and his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
