IN THE NEWS: DEEP Commissioner Dan Esty Talks About Permit Review Process at Pullman & Comley Breakfast

Hartford Business Journal

Daniel C. Esty, the new commissioner of Connecticut's Department of Energy & Environmetal Protection (DEEP), spoke at a breakfast hosted by Pullman & Comley on June 16 about his goals for the agency, which combines the state's efforts on environmental protection and energy policy issues. The commissioner spoke of his desire to speed up permit reviews, saying, "The biggest challenge I see is to change the culture,"  noting that there is some resistance from long-tenured workers.

The DEEP is launching an initiative, largely focused on brownfields, to "evaluate and transform Connecticut's environmental clean-up laws,"  writes Hartford Business Journal reporter Brad Kane.  Cleaning up contaminated sites and redeveloping them to be useful "touches nearly all of DEEP's goals."
