Michael N. LaVelle Named As Chairman of the Board at Homes For The Brave

BRIDGEPORT, Conn.: Attorney Michael N. LaVelle has been named as chairman of the board of ABRI/Homes for the Brave, a nonprofit which provides housing and services to homeless veterans. 

A partner in the Bridgeport office of Pullman & Comley, LLC, Mr. LaVelle practices in the areas of labor and employment law including employment discrimination, labor board and other administrative agency practice and wrongful discharge litigation, and municipal law.  He has broad trial experience, both jury and non-jury, before state and federal civil courts and before administrative agencies that regulate employment.  Mr. LaVelle is an officer and director of the Connecticut Association of Municipal Attorneys and also serves on the board of directors of The Kennedy Center.  He received his A.B. from Harvard University and his J.D. from Boston University.  He is a former U.S. Marine Corps officer and a Vietnam veteran.

Applied Behavioral Rehabilitation Institute, Inc. (ABRI), doing business as Homes for the Brave, is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit whose mission reads “With an emphasis on veterans, we provide the housing and services necessary to help homeless individuals return to a productive and meaningful life.” ABRI currently operates two programs in Bridgeport, Homes for the Brave, a 42 bed transitional living facility for veterans and non-veterans who are homeless, and the Waldorf Supportive Housing Program which provides nine units of permanent housing for male Veterans. Through its programs, ABRI provides housing, supportive, and vocational services to help individuals leave homelessness behind. To date, the organization has served more than 650 people. Currently, ABRI is preparing for a new program, Female Soldiers: Forgotten Heroes (FS:FH). In October 2011, FS:FH will open the Pfc. Nicholas A. Madaras Home in Bridgeport which will offer 15 beds and services to female veterans and their young children who are homeless.
