CONFERENCE: Pullman & Comley Attorneys To Present at Annual CBA Legal Conference

Several attorneys from Pullman & Comley participated in the 2016 Connecticut Legal Conference, sponsored by the Connecticut Bar Association.  The day-long event consisted of multiple CLE sessions, CBA's annual luncheon meeting, and concluded with a networking reception.

During the CBA Annual Luncheon and Meeting, attorney Thomas F. Maxwell Jr. was honored for his 50 years with the Connecticut Bar.  Attorney Maxwell is a member of the firm's Litigation Department, as well as the White Collar, Criminal Defense and Corporate Investigations and Professional Liability sections.

The following is a review of the topics presented by our attorneys at the conference:

SESSION B03
Time: 10:15 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. 
David P. Atkins, head of the firm's Professional Liability Section, will co-present the Ethics Track program, Ahead of the Curve: Ethics in Practice.  Attorney Atkins will offer practical guidelines and recommendations to help lawyers navigate today's complex legal environment while minimizing their professional liability risk. 

SESSION D05
Time: 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Professional liability attorney and chair of the CBA Professional Ethics Committee Marcy Tench Stovall will present Ethics: A Year In Review, an overview of the committee's recent decisions and proposed rule changes. The panel will also address the most frequently asked questions about the disciplinary process.

SESSION D07
Time: 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Michael A. Kurs, chair of the CBA's Antitrust and Trade Regulation Section, will moderate the panel, CUTPA After Four Decades: Addressing the Unanswered Questions.  Attorney Kurs will be joined by two co-authors of the leading unfair trade practice treatise, who will discuss unresolved CUTPA issues and significant developments since the law's inception forty years ago.

SESSION D14
Time: 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
For their portion of the Workplace Track presentation Significant Developments in Employment Law, Jonathan B. Orleans and Robert C. Hinton will provide a review of recent Labor, Employment Law & Employee Benefits practice cases, including Standard Oil of Connecticut, Inc. v. Administrator, Unemployment Compensation Act, SC 19493 (March 15, 2015), a case that expands the definition of independent contractor status under the "ABC Test" for the purposes of unemployment tax liability.
