Overview

Zachary T. Zeid focuses his practice on counseling businesses, public entities and not-for-profits in labor and employment, human resources administration, defined contribution and defined benefit plans, executive compensation and employee benefits.  He regularly advises clients on hiring and termination, employee discipline, state and federal leave laws, employee handbooks and policies, social media and workplace privacy issues, and wage and hour compliance.

Zach has prepared a variety of agreements, including independent contractor, employment separation, confidentiality, noncompetition, and non-solicitation agreements.  He is experienced in ERISA law and provides advice on the design and administration of defined contribution plans, defined health benefit plans, qualified and unqualified plans, federal tax regulations, wellness initiatives, and other federal laws relating to employee benefit health and welfare plans (including COBRA, HIPAA and the ACA).  Zach has assisted clients with matters pertaining to ERISA fiduciary duties, EPCRS corrections, IRS matters and U.S. Department of Labor compliance.  His experience also includes defending against discrimination, retaliation and wrongful termination claims.

Additionally, Zach represents clients of all shapes, sizes, and industries in state and federal court and mediation.  He frequently represents employers before the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities and other state and federal agencies. Zach also supports clients both inside and outside of the cannabis industry to traverse the complicated and rapidly-evolving framework surrounding recreational and medical marijuana laws impacting their businesses.

Prior to joining Pullman & Comley, Zach worked in a Fairfield County law firm where he counseled clients on a full range of labor and employment law matters, including wage and hour, worker's compensation, drafting and reviewing employment policies and handbooks, collective bargaining matters, state and federal agency claims (CHRO, EEOC, OSHA, IRS, DOL, etc.) employment and other agreements. Zach advised public and private sector clients on all aspects of retirement plan design, implementation and compliance.  He aided clients with plan design alternatives, transitioning and monitoring service providers, and addressing day-to-day compliance and operational questions.  Zach counseled clients on employment matters that intersect with executive compensation and employee benefits, including assisting with non-compete and restrictive covenants, retention programs, government agency investigations, transactional due diligence, and corporate compliance.

As a summer intern, Zach worked in a Bridgeport law firm where he focused on union-represented public clients, including school systems, boards of education, police and fire departments.   As an undergraduate student, Zach also served as the sole legal intern in the Office of the Commonwealth Attorney of Roanoke County in Salem, Virginia.
