After Hurricane Irene, the October blizzard of 2011 and SuperStorm Sandy in 2012, the Connecticut Public Utility Regulatory Authority (PURA) was mandated by the state legislature to investigate the response by Connecticut utility companies and their preparedness for future storm events. Our attorneys assisted Cablevision in responding to multiple PURA proceedings which reviewed Cablevision’s response to the storms. Our attorneys were responsible for assisting and guiding Cablevision with responses to numerous interrogatories relating to storm preparation and response. In addition, we helped draft edits to the PURA’s industry-wide Best Practices template which provided reasonable and appropriate actions and reporting by telecommunications and cable companies during and after a storm event. PURA’s investigation found that Cablevision reacted well to the storms, especially in light of the unprecedented damage and number of electrical outages experienced by customers throughout Connecticut.
